Dr. Blauvelt is an orthopaedic surgeon with additional subspecialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery.  He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and has the Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery.

Having practiced in South King County for over 15 years, he is well known in the community for providing expert care for disorders and injuries to the hand and upper extremity.

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the Washington State Medical Society.  In addition, he serves as a board member  of the Washington State Orthopaedic Association.

He is a partner in Cascade Orthopaedics and an attending physician at the Multicare Auburn Medical Center.

Education

Born and raised in New Jersey, he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering Sciences degree in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.  Subsequently, he obtained his medical degree from Vanderbilt University.  General orthopaedic training was at Texas Tech University, followed by a fellowship in surgery of the hand and upper extremity at the University of California Davis.

Dr. Blauvelt then took the opportunity to travel internationally for 18 months, having the opportunity to visit, study and volunteer in over 20 countries around the world.  This included an AO trauma fellowship in Germany, a Ilizarov fellowship in Italy, and visits to many other academic centers in Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, and Asia.  

Topping this off were 3 months of volunteer work with Orthopaedics Overseas in Indonesia and South Africa before settling down western Washington.

In his free time he enjoys home improvement, woodworking, pottery, gardening, the outdoors and spending time with his wife, daughter and son.
